Home after break ins

What to do after a break-in

Despite your best efforts to secure your home and possessions, your home might still be broken into.

Get out! If you return to find that your house has been robbed, don’t stay there! The thief could still be in the house.

Never confront a burglar or block the exit route. Go immediately to a neighbour’s home or nearby location and phone the police.

Take an inventory. When it’s safe to return to your home, make a list of all the missing items. You’ll want to replace any locks or windows that were broken to before you stay in the house.

Contact your insurance broker as soon as possible after the robbery, if you’re planning to make a claim.

Contact the staff at our local office for more safety tips.
